Rob Reiner, the legendary director behind classics like The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally…, and his wife MicheleReinerwere found dead in their Brentwood home on Sunday, December 14. Their son, Nick Reiner was taken into custody hours later in connection with their deaths.
Nick, 32, was reportedly not at the home when his parents’ bodies were discovered. According to ABC News, he allegedly left the residence and was subsequently located by police near the University of Southern California campus.
After being “quickly” located, authorities arrested him on suspicion of murder around 9:15 p.m on Sunday.
When reached by People, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that "the location of the suspect’s arrest was in the Exposition Park area near USC."
Nick is currently being held without bond at Los Angeles' Twin Towers Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, December 16, according to a source speaking with the outlet.
Eyewitnesses told People that Nick, Michele and Rob attended a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien the evening before the deaths. They said that Nick and Rob got into a “big fight” during the event.
"Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous," one of the sources claimed.
Neighbors also shared insights into the Reiner family’s life in Brentwood. The family owned two homes across the street from one another, Rob and Michele lived in one, while a daughter and her children resided in the other.
"They're a big presence on the block," a neighbor told ABC News. "They're always having parties."
Rob and Michele, who married in 1989, had three children together: Jake, Nick and Romy. Rob is also survived by Tracy Reiner, his daughter from his first marriage to Penny Marshall, who died in 2018.
Following the tragic discovery, the Reiner family issued a statement. "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."
Rob was a legendary Hollywood director, producer and actor known for his iconic films including Stand By Me, This Is Spinal Tap and A Few Good Men.
