Is Gabriel's Restaurant From Emily in Paris Real? Netflix

One of the hallmarks of Emily in Paris is that the Netflix series films on location in Paris (and Rome and Venice), making many of the sights on the show accessible for viewers. With the exception of a few interior sets, like the Agence Grateau bureau, many scenes are shot in real and famous museums, restaurants, bars, and hotels around the City of Light. Occasionally, when it suits the plot, the writers will change the name of the location for the show.

That is the case for Gabriel’s (Lucas Bravo) bistro, L’Esprit de Gigi. The location is, in fact, a real working restaurant when the cameras aren’t rolling. The real name of the location is Terra Nera, an Italian ristorante located at 18 Rue des FossĆ©s Saint-Jacques in Paris's Latin Quarter, right near where Emily's apartment building is supposed to be located. The Italian restaurant has reportedly come to embrace its newfound fame, occasionally offering themed menus.

Named for Gabriel’s grandmother and first cooking teacher back in Normandy, L’Esprit de Gigi on Emily in Paris has seen its ups and downs over the previous seasons. Most recently, the restaurant had to handle a semi-fake Michelin inspector. (She did work for Michelin, just the tire division.) But Gabriel’s perseverance resulted in success by the end of season four.

By mid-season five when the show returns to Paris from Rome, he and his investor, Antoine (William Abadie), have differing views on the right creative direction for the restaurant. Gabriel wants to go plant-based while Antoine prefers traditional French cuisine. A chance opportunity doing a catering gig for an Agence Grateau event for Heatherton Hotels (a fictional company for the series) gives Gabriel the motivation he needs to explore new cooking opportunities abroad. That leaves Antoine in the lurch to find a new chef, which Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) announces finally comes to fruition in the season finale. But Alfie only specifies that the new chef is a ā€œshe,ā€ with a bit of a twinkle in his eye, and it hints at one of the cliffhangers should a sixth season be picked up by Netflix.

In the final scene of episode 10, we see Gabriel on the yacht of billionaire and hotel magnate Thomas Heatherton (Jonathan Cake), for whom he has been working as a personal chef all summer. Heatherton, who seems very appreciative of Gabriel’s talents despite being gruff with everyone else, informs Gabriel he has some vacation time while the yacht is in port. Gabriel ends up sending Emily (Lily Collins) a postcard with Santorini on the backside, inviting her to come to Greece.
