*The View* cohost Sunny Hostin has called out Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry after the latter criticized California Gov. Gavin Newsom at a recent live event — moments before he took the stage at the same presentation.
At Wednesday at *The New York Times'* DealBook Summit, the *Monster's Ball* actress named Gov. Newsom in a critique over vetoing the Menopause Care Equity Act — AB 432 — for two consecutive years.
"I adore Halle Berry, I know Halle Berry. I disagree with her 100 percent on this," Hostin, *The View*'s legal expert and former federal prosecutor, said Friday morning at the Hot Topics table.

She added, "Gavin Newsom made it very clear that the reason that he's vetoed this bill twice is because he's asking them to tailor it for costs. Remember that in 2026 healthcare premiums are going to go up to almost $1,000 per family. In an effort to keep healthcare costs down, he has to veto it because they're not tailoring the bill."
Hostin then maintained that "he's done a lot for women," and listed a roster of things she felt helped women, including "a measure allowing healthcare providers to prescribe abortion medication anonymously" and his requirement stipulating that "state-regulated health plans cover abortion pills regardless of federal approval status."
She also highlighted "increased legal protection for providers against criminal prosecution" in California, and praised Newsom for signing "legislation that protects women's health by creating safety regulations for ingredients and materials in products used by women in including hair, menstrual products, prenatal vitamins."

Hostin doubled down on her earlier remark, saying, "He has done a lot for women, but he's thinking about the health of the country and the rising costs of healthcare."
** has reached out to representatives for Berry for a response.
Berry, who founded the menopausal care company Respin, drew gasps from the audience when she slammed Newsom at the event earlier this week.
"Gavin Newsom has vetoed our menopause bill not one, but two years in a row. But that's okay because he's not going to be governor forever. And, with the way he's overlooked women — half the population — by devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be our next president either," Berry said on stage at the event, where Newsom was also slated to appear.

"We are half the population," Berry stressed in her impassioned plea for more focus on healthcare for women. "At this stage in my life, I have zero f---s left to give."
Newsom responded to Berry's words in a statement to EW's sister publication, PEOPLE. In it, a spokesperson for the politician wrote, "The governor has deep admiration for Ms. Berry's advocacy and looks forward to working with her and other stakeholders on this critical issue. He shares her goal of expanding access to menopause care that too many women struggle to get."

The statement explained that "he vetoed the bill because, as written, it would have unintentionally raised health care costs for millions of working women already stretched thin — something he's determined to avoid."
*The View* airs weekdays on ABC. Watch Berry criticize Newsom at around 13 minutes into the YouTube video above.
