As the country was embroiled in a divisive and high-stakes presidential election, Taylor Swift says she was focused on offering one thing she could control: a refuge for her fans.
The revelation is pulled into focus in Episode 4 of Swift's Disney+ Eras Tour docuseries, which follows the final U.S. leg of the record-shattering tour as it winds through Indianapolis just days before Election Day.
"The one thing I can provide for people is an escape," Swift says as her SUV drives to Lucas Oil Stadium. "Like nothing could ever or should ever bother any of us, and nothing will for three and a half hours. I'm glad that I will have given just 100% girlhood and hope and belief and sweat and effort, because that’s the job."
It's a rare moment of direct acknowledgment from Swift, who has largely kept political commentary off the Eras Tour stage despite publicly endorsing Kamala Harris earlier in the fall.

Following the Sept. 10, 2024, presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, Swift publicly endorsed Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
In an Instagram post shared minutes after the debate ended, Swift wrote she would be “casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz,” praising Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and applauding Walz for his long-standing support of LGBTQ+ rights, IVF and a woman’s right to her own body. She urged fans to research the candidates and register to vote.
In her post, Swift also addressed concerns about misinformation, referencing AI-generated images falsely suggesting she supported Trump. "The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth," she wrote.
Over her 18-year career, Swift has publicly endorsed only a handful of candidates, including President Joe Biden in 2020 and Tennessee's senatorial candidate Phil Bredesen in 2018.
