Chrissy Hofbeck seemed to be sitting in a pretty good spot on *Survivor 50*. She was at the center of a strong alliance, yet had a big shield in front of her in the form of Coach to take any arrows that may possibly be headed her way. But the Dragonslayer may have gotten her slayed anyway.

Chrissy and Coach partnered up for a challenge, but the move backfired when Jeff Probst announced that a pair that did not win immunity in the challenge would be voted out together at that night’s Tribal Council. Seeing an opportunity to take out two strong competitors from the honor and integrity alliance, the other players pounced. Even Chrissy’s pleas to her partner to stay quiet on the hammock could not save them, and a fake idol grab by Rick Devens at Tribal Council only brought more votes their way — even from fellow allies Joe Hunter and Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick.

How does Chrissy feel about being taken out by the paired double-elimination twist? What is her reaction to getting votes from Joe and Stephenie? And how does she feel about her *Survivor 50* experience as opposed to her *Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers* one?  We got into all of that with the second member of the jury, and you can now watch or read the entire interview below.

**: What was your initial reaction when you learned that a pair of players would be voted out together and that *you* were paired with… Coach?**

**CHRISSY HOFBECK: **I wasn't surprised I was paired with Coach. He was my best friend through the game. You saw absolutely none of that in the edit. It's fine. When I found out there was an elimination though, honestly, I didn't really stress. All the focus at the time was on Rick and Aubry. So during the challenge, I was mostly thinking: *Okay, Rick and Aubry just can't win this thing and get immunity.* That was really it. Of course, then things went downhill fast.

**Look, as a fan, I liked the twist because it was exciting, it led to new strategic avenues, and it was less random than a rock draw into a smaller group. But I didn’t get voted out because of it, so what do you make of the twist?**

I know I'm the victim of the twist, but I also think it was an awesome twist. So this is me saying totally the opposite of fire-making, which was, you know, fire-making was like, "What are you talking about? You’re changing the game." This, I thought, was actually extremely cool. Not knowing why we were getting paired up made it even better because some of those pairs were like… I think Christian said it last night, right? He felt insulated because enough people liked Jonathan or liked him. I think it was kind of cool. Sucks for me, right? Sucks for Coach. But yeah, kudos to the show.

**You’ve never been voted out of *Survivor* before, so tell me what it was like to go from a place where I have to imagine you were feeling really good about your position in the game to a few hours later being completely out of it?**

I would say that Coach and I felt pretty good about our position in the game until we got to Tribal Council. So we're going in thinking basically that we're in an alliance of seven people. There are 13 people left in the game. We've got the numbers. For them to even consider voting out two loyal people, then they're gonna be five in a group of 11 that are left, right? So I think going into Tribal Council, we were feeling pretty confident that it wasn't gonna be us. Of course, then Rick did his awesome, awesome move. I loved that. I thought that was great and good on him. I think the thing that surprised me the most is how fast people in our alliance flipped.

**So let's say Rick doesn't do those shenanigans. What do you think happens with the vote?**

I think that Rick and Aubry get voted out. I think everyone was mostly pushing for Rick and Aubry. I wanted to vote out Rizo and Emily, right? That was my demise. That was my bad move of the night.

**So let's get into Joe and Stephenie. What happened there? How surprised were you to see them putting your name down?**

I was really surprised that Stephenie put our names down, but not, because she's very controlled by Cirie. Let me say that is *in the game*. Stephenie, as a real life human being out of the game, love her, so that was game comment.

Actually until last night when I watched, I thought that plan got hatched by Joe and Tiffany at the reward. After it happened, I was like: *Oh my gosh, Tiffany just totally pulled Joe onto her side and got this whole thing going.* You couldn't have convinced me otherwise until I watched last night and saw that that was not what happened.

**They did have a bonding moment over that though. You were right on that. Joe said he was sort of locking in with her.**

They did, but instead Tiffany agreed to vote out her person, Aubry. And it turned out that it was Cirie the whole time that pulled the numbers.

**Let’s talk about that. Cirie said the best move was to take you and Coach out because you were the two people calling the shots in that alliance. Was she right?**

I don't know if that was right, because I think that Jonathan has a huge strategic presence, strategic mind, and great relationships. Coach and Jonathan and I were really tight, the three of us. It was probably the three of us. But who would know? I got no edit, Dalton. *[Laughs.]* Like, you wouldn't even know I was friends with Coach, but I was glad I at least got my props from Cirie last night.

**Speaking of Coach, did he take your advice to sit quietly on the hammock and chill out?**

Yeah, all day. He sat in the hammock literally all day. He was hilarious. I loved watching the episode last night. Honestly, I love all of Coach's shenanigans. I love everything about that man. I thought it was great. I thought he was really him. But yes, he did go crazy the day before. And then I said, "You have to sit down in the hammock and stay quiet." And he literally did all day.

**You mentioned your edit and I know what it's like for anyone that dreams of getting on this show or dreams of coming back to this show, and you live it out there 24/7. It's all your experience. Then you come back and some people are on the show more than others. Tell me how you've dealt with that, Chrissy.**

So, first of all, I went out to play the game to play the game. I did not go out to become an Instagram influencer. I did not go out because my goal was how many followers I'm getting. So, in that sense, I don't care at all. The only thing that I literally do care about is I didn't want it to look like... I mean, it kind of looks like I was just there, like not actually doing anything, which is why I was glad that at least I got one line from Cirie saying, "Chrissy and Coach are running the alliance." So at least, you know, it's fine. Nobody knows my experience.

There was so much that wasn't shown. First of all, Coach was literally my best friend out there, and he would announce every single day on the beach, "Chrissy is my number one! Chrissy is my number one!" And I had to say, "Coach, you have to stop saying that." So he's like, "Okay, won't say it. " And then he started going around to everyone else going, "You're my number one! You're my number one!" And that's what made TV. The two of us were shaking our heads, but you know…

**Wait, did you get a nickname then or not?**

No, I didn't need a nickname. The nickname is what you do to people when you need to keep them close to you and keep their trust. Coach and I were just so locked in that I didn't need that to maintain my loyalty.

**What are you saying? He ****just gave me a nickname.**** Are you saying that I'm not close to him?**

Did he? Wow. Maybe he wants a good write-up or something. But no, I didn't get a nickname.

**You commented on social media a few weeks back about the edit being so male-heavy, even dubbing the season “In the Hands of the Bros.”**

I did. And I'm glad to see that things are really coming around. But, you know, back even then when I said that, you could think of someone like Genevieve who got a really big edit, right? But her edit was so one-sided. The time I spent with Genevieve, she is just a lovely person and she's so kind and friendly, smart, strategic. She did my hair in those cute braids that I wore then for a week.

There were so many beautiful parts of Genevieve that I feel like we didn't even get to see any of that. So I'm glad that we're starting to see some more well-rounded personalities coming out, certainly with Cirie, certainly with Emily. I think Dee also had some well-rounded moments.

Coach reveals why one 'Survivor 50' player had to go vote twice at Tribal Council

Benjamin "Coach" Wade on 'Survivor 50'.

**A theme we heard from different people on original Kalo on the show was that you were being too much of a tribe mom and annoying people out there. We saw your reaction to that on screen when Coach told you. What do you make of that now?**

First of all, would I have changed my behavior? No. Because it is in myself. Like, I'm sorry. If Jonathan needs his hair untangled and he's like, “Chrissy, untangle my hair,” I'm gonna say yes. I'm gonna sew his sweater when there's a hole in it. I'm gonna rub Coach's calves when they need to.

When the moment that the game started and we got our buffs and we opened our buffs and saw who our tribe was, I looked around and said, "Crap, I'm on the bottom of this tribe." Like, immediately knew I was on the bottom, just by who was on it. There were five new-era players, so already with the old-new era, old school was outnumbered, right? The old-new school is me, Coach, who is iconic, Coach is never getting voted out, and Mike White, who's also never getting voted out because everybody wants their spot on *The White Lotus.*

So I already knew I was on the bottom. I think that in a game like 50, everyone deserves to be there, so we're all just sort of grasping at straws for any reason that somebody's gotta go. You know, Dee had to go because she was a winner. That's why we were gunning for Dee. Dee's amazing. She's amazing in every way. Charlie was like, "Okay, I really like Chrissy,” but, you know, whatever. They had to come up with some reason to vote me out. I don't care.

You know why I was crying? You know what really threw me? It was Mike White that said I talked too much, and he told Coach. And that was a day that I was just very tired and I freaking lost it. I was like: *He's a 54-year-old man and he can't come tell me that I talk too much? He has to tell Coach to come tell me that I talk too much? That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of my life.* And meanwhile, I sit there and listen to them all talk about nonsense all day. I listened to a colonic story that lasted about two hours long, including, “And now the yeast comes out, and now this comes out, and now this comes out,” and then I get told *I* talk too much. Anyway…

**You said that you would do it exactly the way you did it. After you were told that by Coach, did you modulate how you were acting around camp or not?**

No, because Coach told me at the tribe swap, and now I'm on a tribe with my people, and now I am getting along awesome with Genevieve, and Colby, and Joe, and Aubry and I had our conversation. So I just remained me. It’s fine. They cannot like me. It's fine.

**Well, there's like *in* the game and there's like *out* of the game, which as you know, can be different things.**

**What’s something that happened out there this season that never made it to TV that you wish we had seen?**

So during all of my pregame press, I swore up and down that I was not winning the first immunity challenge, and how did they not show this? I was standing there talking into my microphone, and I said, "I can play the long game or I can play the short game. The short game says win this challenge, which I could do heartily, make my way to the jury, but then I am a target the very next time I don't win an individual immunity because people know that I can still win this stuff. Or if I think I can make it through the Blood Moon, I gotta step down and not turn on the gas until later in the game.”

And so I stood there for a minute and I said, "I'm playing the long game" and then said, "You can take this one Steph,” and stepped down. All they showed was, "You can take this one Steph." Obviously, I was just standing there like I could've stood there for five hours, but I just didn't want to win the first challenge. That’s actually my biggest regret in the game because now knowing how it played out, I could've gotten that one more challenge and tied the official Kim Spradlin record.

**You’ve talked about the very mixed feelings you have about your first Survivor season, because you made it all the way to the end, tied a *Survivor* record, almost won the game, but you had a lot of tension with that cast who had strong words about you in their exit press. What about on *Survivor 50*? Where are your feelings on this experience?**

I had a great experience. One of the reasons that I wish we saw more of the edit, but it's fine — there was so much love in that game. There really was a tremendous amount of joy and celebration, and mutual respect. I didn't make it as far, but I had a way better experience. I certainly came out with people that I really genuinely care about and I feel genuinely cared for by them. So it's all good. I'm very glad that I went out and played.

**Is this the end of your *Survivor* journey?**

Absolutely. I am never sleeping in the dirt again, Dalton. Never again.

**I've heard that from people before, Chrissy.**

I know, I know. But right now, I really do feel like the itch has been scratched and I'm ready to just go back to my good life in Florida in an old people's community. I'm happy.
