Ashlyn Harris says she knows she "hurt" ex-wife and former teammate Ali Krieger when they split in 2023.

The soccer stars married in 2019 and share two children.

Harris is the subject of a new Roku documentary, Gamechangers: The Ashlyn Harris Story.

Ashlyn Harris has opened up about her divorce from fellow soccer star Ali Krieger.

"I had to make a really hard decision," Harris told Us Weeklyin aninterview published Thursday. "I know I hurt her in that process."

The retired goalkeeper of the U.S. Women's National Team, which won two consecutive World Cups, in 2015 and 2019, said she hadn't expected the split from her teammate.

"I don't resent or regret anything about the life that I built with her; it just wasn't for me," Harris said while promoting her upcoming documentary, Gamechangers: The Ashlyn Harris Story.

"You try and you try and you try and you keep trying to make it work and you don't want to fail," she said. "You don't want to give up. But also, life is really short and really long at the same time. I get one shot at this. There's no second act. If I'm feeling this way in my 30s and I'm so unhappy that I don't want to get out of bed, am I really serving her and my children and my friends and myself?"

Harris and Krieger wed in 2019, and Harris filed for divorce in September 2023. They share two children: a 5-year-old daughter, Sloane, and a son, Ocean, who's 3.

She retired from soccer in 2022.

Since 2023, Harris has dated former One Tree Hill actress Sophia Bush, with whom she said she's "the happiest I've ever been."

"Life is too short to feel the burden and weight of a life you don't want to be in and you don't want to live," Harris said. "It f---ing sucks, and you have to make the hard decisions sometimes, but on the other side of that bravery is a life maybe you've always imagined. I'm privileged enough now to live that."

The documentary includes interviews with Harris' family and former coaches, and it looks back on her entire life, including her post-soccer career.

Gamechangers: The Ashlyn Harris Story premieres June 8 on Roku.
