Not every red carpet look can be a winner!
Celebrities often make jaws drop when they attend star-studded events, but that can be for both good and bad reasons. In fact, some stars have called out the looks they wish they could forget.
Take Ashley Tisdale French, for instance, who had some of the most memorable fun-with-fashion moments in the aughts. The High School Musicalalum loved a good layer, including the pink furry moment at the 2004 premiere of The Incrediblesthat even she has questions about these days.
Some of her former teen queens, like Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, also scratched their heads over some layered looks they wore around the same time, but can you blame them for being young and experimenting with their style?
Those three are far from alone in admitting that not all of their looks were showstoppers. The truth is, not every single outfit can be a winner. Whether they were just starting in their careers and didn't have access to the pro styling teams they'd later work with, or they tried to take a risk that didn't quite pay off, some of the most stylish celebrities on the planet — including Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Victoria Beckham — all have at least one ensemble they'd love to erase from fashion history.
Read on to see the beauty blunders, silly styling and overall head-to-toe outfits that these stars regret.

Kim Kardashian

Though the choice was controversial, the SKIMS founder had no qualms about slipping into Marilyn Monroe's iconic Jean Louis-designed "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" dress for the 2022 Met Gala. She does, however, wish she could take back one aspect of the overall look from that night — her hair choice.
In a post-credits scene from a November 2025 episode of The Kardashians, Kardashian revealed that she regretted going full-on Marilyn with a bleach blonde 'do, realizing after the fact that her dark locks would have been the better choice for the historical red carpet moment.
"I will bring this up 'til the end of time," she said on the episode. "I don't know why, but everyone told me, 'Don't do Marilyn hair. You're gonna look like a wax figure of Marilyn.' We just thought we wanted to be blonde."

It turns out even Rihanna sometimes regrets her outfit choices.
The singer told British Vogue in April 2024 that she initially loved the oversized brown suit she wore to the 69th annual Parsons Benefit in May 2017, but quickly wished she had worn something else.
"It was a brown tan suit that we all loved so much, but the day we put it on, I was like, 'Mmm, it's giving UPS driver,' and that is not cute," she said. "Not for the red carpet anyways."

In 2001, Emma Watson attended her first movie premiere for her film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. For the occasion, the then-11-year-old English actress chose a long gray dress and a cute black boa.
Nearly two decades later, the actress had thoughts about the look during a 2017 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
"This was my first-ever movie premiere, and my mom and I planned this for weeks," Watson said. "It doesn't look like it, but there was a lot of thought going into this. I thought I looked amazing, by the way. Bless me."

Tisdale French quickly learned not to use her Disney show'swardrobe department as her own personal stylist.
"They will just style you how you're styled on your TV show, so I looked like my character at all times when I was going out," she told PEOPLE, referencing her time as Maddie Fitzpatrick on TheSuite Life of Zack and Cody.
At the 2004 premiere of The Incredibles, the New Jersey native wore an all-pink look consisting of a camo-print skirt, pastel jacket, calf-high bow-front boots and a sequined purse, all topped with a furry stole.
"This pink furry thing, I don't even know what it was, but I said, 'Ooh, put me in it!' And instead of wearing it like you would normally wear it, I was like, 'I am going to have one of my arms out and have it going across my body.' It was the weirdest thing," Tisdale French said. "At that point, you just have to laugh at yourself!"

While Victoria and David Beckham's matching all-leather outfit from 1999 is widely considered one of the pair's most iconic looks, both have said they regret their twinning moment.
"It haunts me, it does haunt me, but I love it," the former Spice Girls member said on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohenin October 2022. "We were wearing Gucci [and] it was a Versace dinner, which is inappropriate in itself."
The silver lining?
"We really thought about it, and there was a naïveté to it that was just so sweet," she told host Andy Cohen.

David also spoke out about the outfit choice, telling H&M Life in 2013 (per the BBC), "That's one where I look back, like, 'What were we thinking?' We laugh about that one."

The lavender look Tyra Banks wore to the 2000 Academy Awards stands out to the supermodel as a highlight on her "long" list of fashion regrets.
"I went to Vera Wang for her to dress me, and she suggested this really beautiful deep blue dress," Banks told Harper's Bazaarin October 2024. "I was like, Vera Wang, I don't want to blend in, I want to stand out! So I chose purple! Lavender! And ... I saw her face, but she was like, 'Okay, you're the supermodel.' "
The verdict? "Hot mess. Vera Wang, you were right," the supermodel continued. "That 'Little Bo Peep Has Lost Her Sheep' dress that I wore to the Academy Awards was a hot mess, and to this day, I apologize and bow down to you. It should have been navy."
In March 2025, Banks revealed more thoughts on the outfit, writing on Instagram, "The year was 2000. Hi @verawanggang. People had some OPINIONS about this dress back then. It kinda feels like [Ariana Grande] would wear it in pink today."

"My very first Golden Globe Awards dress by Marchesa [in 2005]," she said. "They'd just started out and were really good friends of mine. I loved the dress they made, but it was so wrong for that occasion. You could see my belly button, and everybody else was in long, flowy gowns."

Amanda Seyfried has help now, but when she starred in Mean Girls, one of her first major roles, she did not have a stylist — and she doesn't look back at some of her early looks fondly.
During a February 2022 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Testament of Ann Lee stars referenced her look from the 2004 film's New York premiere as a sore spot: a sheer black-and-white polka-dot turtleneck dress.
"I used the only money I had to buy a dress, but there were two premieres, and so I had to buy two dresses, cause you wear different dresses," she said as host Jimmy Kimmel showed off the two ensembles. "I didn't know any of the rules, so I was wearing a white bra and black underwear and no slip. And I paid $600 for that dress."

Kate Hudson

"You know why? Because I love fashion, and anything that I've ever worn is always coming from a creative place for me," the Running Pointstar said. "I never look back and regret those decisions."
She continued, "I think there are things that other people might have thought weren't their favorite, but for me, I've always worn and choose to wear what makes me feel good and how I love to express myself."
One of those outfits folks called into question was the Stella McCartney gown she wore to the 2001 Oscars.
A decade later, while presenting her designer friend with an award in 2011, Hudson said the frock was a lot of look.
"I woke up the next morning ... [and] turned on the television to find out I was on every Worst Dressed list possible. So I called Stella, and we just laughed our a--es off, and she said to me, 'Look, babe, it was the hair, wasn't it?' " she recalled, per BritishVogue. "To this day, that now vintage dress hangs in my wardrobe, but I swear one day I'll wear it again. But Stella, I promise I'll do the hair differently."
