Role Model Says He’s ‘Spent Most of My Life Single’ and Enjoys ‘Only Having to Worry About Yourself’

Role Model's upcoming album Chuck Timely & The Hourglass was inspired by a two-year period of being single
He reflected on the highs and lows of single life and questioned if love could solve deeper personal struggles
The album's lead single "High Hopes 3000" is out now ahead of its August 7 release date
Role Model is reflecting on time spent being single.
In a new Rolling Stoneinterview, the 29-year-old "Sally, When the Wine Runs Out" singer-songwriter opened up about how his upcoming album Chuck Timely & The Hourglass was written during "this up-and-down period of being single" and reflected on the best parts of life outside a relationship.
He explained the album's "common thread" centers on "time and feeling a little bit stagnant in this two-year period of being single and dating and then not dating" while "feeling a pressure to find love."

Role Model, who was in a public relationship with Emma Chamberlain from 2020 to 2023 and has more recently been romantically linked to actress Dakota Johnson since the end of 2025, said life as a single man "was a rollercoaster."
He detailed, "You get sick of it a lot, and there's moments where you're like, 'Oh, I love it.' But I think you really start to have these existential moments of, 'What am I doing with my life?' Also, is finding love or falling in love going to fix whatever else is wrong here?"

"I've spent most of my life single," added Role Model. "The part I like is being on your own time and really only having to worry about yourself selfishly. It's a nice thing, but also, that can only go so far."
"I think it's an important thing to learn how to take care of someone. And it felt like maybe it was a missing piece in my life," he said.

Announced earlier this week, Chuck Timely & The Hourglass is set for an Aug. 7 release. The album's lead single, "High Hopes 3000," is out now.
