Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday has already generated enormous buzz. Now, a fresh rumor suggests the Oscar winner could be in line for one of the biggest paydays in superhero movie history. However, Marvel has not confirmed the figure.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars salary rumored
A new report has reignited speculation over how much Robert Downey Jr. will earn for stepping back into the MCU as Doctor Doom. According to Page Six, unnamed sources claim the actor is set to receive $100 million for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. As the report comes from a tabloid and neither Marvel nor Disney has confirmed the number, fans should treat it as a rumor rather than an official disclosure.

The latest figure builds on an earlier 2024 report that already pointed toward a blockbuster deal. At the time, Variety reported that Marvel was paying the Russo brothers about $80 million to direct the two Avengers films, while Downey Jr. would earn “significantly more” than that amount. The outlet also said his agreement includes facilities such as private jet travel, security, and an extensive trailer setup during production. Variety further reported that Downey Jr. agreed to return only if Joe and Anthony Russo came back to direct the films.
According to Page Six, Downey Jr.’s nine-figure package might include a third, unconfirmed Marvel project alongside the two Avengers films. The report also claims Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans will each earn around $40 million for the two films, with the production budget for Doomsday and Secret Wars reportedly reaching $600 million.
Robert Downey Jr. is Marvel’s biggest box-office MVP. Ever since Iron Man launched the MCU in 2008, analysts estimate he has earned between $500 million and $600 million from his Marvel work, placing him comfortably at the top of the franchise’s pay scale. Now, with Marvel handing the keys to the next Avengers chapter back to the Russo brothers and Downey, fresh salary rumors have only cranked up the hype.
