New details about the slayings of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner and the discovery of their bodies have emerged.

As previously reported, Romy Reiner, the youngest daughter of the late couple, was the first person to enter the grisly scene at her parents' home in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood on Sunday afternoon. Now a source says Romy actually had to be informed of her mother's death.

Romy, 28, arrived at her parents' house after a massage therapist who was unable to access the property for an appointment contacted her, a person close to the Reiner family told *The New York Times* in a new report.

Romy reportedly arrived with her roommate and entered the house, where she found her father's body and then fled, not knowing that her mother was also dead inside. Her roommate was reportedly the one to call 911. Paramedics later informed Romy that her mother was also dead after they arrived on the scene.

Romy informed authorities that her brother Nick lived on the property as well, but she did not suggest to them that he might be a suspect, as some news outlets have reported, according to the source who spoke with *The New York Times.*

Authorities did not find Nick on the property, but he was later located Sunday evening in Exposition Park, where he was arrested without incident and then taken into custody Monday morning.

He has been charged with fatally stabbing his parents and is being held without bail after having his original $4 million bail rescinded.

"As a result of the initial investigation, it was determined that the Reiners were the victims of homicide," the LAPD said in a statement. "The investigation further revealed that Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of Robert and Michele Reiner, was responsible for their deaths. Nick Reiner was located and arrested at approximately 9:15 p.m."

PEOPLE previously reported that Nick and Rob Reiner had a loud argument while attending Conan O'Brien's holiday party Saturday night, with one source saying Nick was "freaking everyone out, acting crazy" and "asking people if they were famous." TMZ reported that Rob and Michele Reiner left the party after the argument.

However, the source who spoke with the *Times* told the outlet that the intensity of Rob and Nick's conversation has been "overblown," noting that it could "have been misinterpreted." The source claimed that Nick's behavior at the party was not unusual to his parents, who had grown used to it over the years, and that they would likely not have left the party because of it.

Nick has been formally charged with two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced Thursday afternoon. The *Being Charlie* co-writer faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife. His arraignment will be scheduled for a later date.

"Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes," Hochman said in a statement. "Rob Reiner was one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation. His murder and his wife of more than 35 years, Michele Singer Reiner's murder, are shocking and tragic. We owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken."

If convicted, Nick faces life in state prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.
