Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were found slain in their Los Angeles home by their daughter, Romy, multiple sources tell PEOPLE.
According to the sources, the couple was killed by their son, Nick.
Calls about the tragedy first came into the Los Angeles Fire Department at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14. First responders arriving at the home said they found a man and woman dead — and the victims were later identified as Rob and Michele.
Nick, in a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, spoke about his long struggle with drug addiction, which ultimately led to him being homeless at one time.
Nick told PEOPLE that his years of addiction formed the basis for the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.

Rob was a director, producer and actor who gained fame with his role as Mike on the Norman Lear sitcom All in the Family. As a director, he helmed beloved movies like This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).
He and Rob Michele met when Rob directed When Harry Met Sally, and the couple married in 1989 before having three children.
