Phil Mickelson announced that he will no longer be competing in the 2026 Masters Tournament

The professional golfer cited a "personal health matter" going on in his family in a statement on Thursday, April 2

His decision was shared two days after Tiger Woods pulled out of the prestigious golf tournament

Phil Mickelson will no longer be competing in the 2026 Masters Tournament, he announced Thursday.

The professional golfer, 55, said he is withdrawing due to a family health matter, in a statement shared on social media on Thursday, April 2.

"Unfortunately, I will not play in the Masters Tournament next week and will be out for an extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health matter. I have great respect for Augusta National Golf Club and it is definitely the most special week of the year," Mickelson, a three-time Masters champion, wrote.

"I wish everyone the best of luck and will be watching," he concluded his statement.

Mickelson had also announced in February that he would be absent from the first two events of the 2026 LIV Golf League season in a statement on his social media accounts.

"I will not be able to participate in the first two LIV Events as Amy and I need to be present for a family health matter,” Mickelson said in the February-released, referring to his wife of nearly 30 years.

The veteran golfer — who shares three children with the former NBA cheerleader — did not share any further information about the nature of the health matter at the time, nor did he specify what family member is affected.

Mickelson's withdrawl comes two days after Tiger Woods also announced he wouldn't be competing in the tournament, which runs from April 9 through April 11 at Augusta National.

“Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament fully support Tiger Woods as he focuses on his well-being,” Fred Ridley, Augusta National Golf Club chairman, said in a statement. “Although Tiger will not be joining us in person next week, his presence will be felt here in Augusta.”

Their respective withdrawals will mark the first time since 1994 that five-time Masters champion Woods and Mickelson both missed the first major of the season at Augusta National Golf Club.

Woods' decision to skip the Masters comes after his arrest on DUI charges on Friday, March 27. Five days after his car accident, Woods announced he would be seeking treatment.

"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," Woods wrote in a statement posted on X on Tuesday night. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."

He added in part, "I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally."
