Michelle Pfeiffer is sharing why filming Batman Returns felt "intimate," despite the fact that it was a blockbuster superhero movie

Pfeiffer noted that there was "no CGI" in the film and it was "all in real time"

Michelle Pfeiffer is opening up about the "intimate" experience of playing Catwoman opposite Michael Keaton's Batman in Tim Burton's Batman Returns in 1992.

Speaking to Deadline in a recent interview, Pfeiffer, 68, said playing the role was "a dream come true."

"And a very different process than Marvel movies. and they're a whole different machine," she added. "Batman was actually very intimate and everything was not, you know ... there weren't really special effects no CGI. It was all in real time. You know, the sets were there. I don't remember there being any green screen."

The actress added: "So, you know, that was just like making a regular movie dressed up [and] weird."

Pfeiffer got the role after Annette Bening — who was originally cast — had to drop out of filming due to her pregnancy. Several stars were reportedly up for the part, including Cher and Madonna, but it eventually went to Pfeiffer.

While that film never came to fruition, Pfeiffer has said she would happily reprise the role if the opportunity arose.

Speaking to former Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb in April 2019, Pfeiffer said of having another opportunity to play the part: "I mean, that would be incredible. I was sad when that ended. I was just getting comfortable with everything that I had to deal with and beginning to have some fun with it, and then it was over."

The actress now stars in the Apple TV series Margo's Got Money Troubles as Shyanne — a former Hooters waitress who shares daughter Margo (Elle Fanning) with ex-pro wrestler Jinx (Nick Offerman).

The series marks the first time Pfeiffer has worked with her husband, showrunner David E. Kelley.
