Matheson is gearing up for the release of the fifth and final season of The Bear
Matty Matheson wants people to get out this summer.
The chef and actor, 44, reveals the food trend he thinks everybody should be open to this summer while speaking with PEOPLE at FX's The Bear Final Family Meal event on Monday, June 15 in New York City ahead of the show's fifth and final season.
"The trend that needs to be anything is going to restaurants, eating in restaurants," he says.

Matheson also wants people to enjoy each other's company.
"Also, here's a sick new trend, put your phone in your pocket. Keep your phone in your pocket. Relax, enjoy each other," he continues. "Also, go to restaurants that support farmers, fisher folk and ranchers."
Matheson's comments follow reports that people have been dining out less.
YouGov reported in 2025 that, in response to rising restaurant prices, 54% of Americans said they have changed how they dine out to spend less money. As a result, about half of lower-and-middle income individuals stated they are going to fine-dining places less often than they did the previous year.

Matheson has worked on The Bear since 2022. In the hit drama about a chef who takes over his late brother's sandwich shop, he plays family friend Neil Fak. He also lends his kitchen skills to the show as a producer and culinary consultant.
In addition to The Bear, Matheson has a YouTube channel with over 1.6 million subscribers and hosts Netflix's Just a Dash. He has released three cookbooks with his latest, Matty Matheson: Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, having come out in 2024.
Matheson spoke with PEOPLE in January about the similarities between restaurant life and his work on the Jeremy Allen White-led series.
"Both long days, both a team effort. Everyone's working toward one goal," the Prime Seafood Palace owner said.

"Restaurants are way closer to live theater," he continued. "People are showing up at a certain time. You better know your lines. You better have your mise en place ready."
The Bear season 5 will premiere all eight episodes June 25 on Hulu and Disney+.
