It was a night to remember for J Balvin’s fans in Medellín, but for the reggaeton superstar himself, it almost ended in a medical emergency. During a seven-hour concert, Balvin says he came dangerously close to a heart attack.

During a livestream with streamer Ibai, the singer opened up about how intense his November Medellín concert was, noting that he’s “still recovering.”

“Normally, we go through moments as artists where you want to do concerts for your ego, but in this case, I focused on giving the people a show,” Balvin said.

During the concert, Balvin described feeling a sudden blackout, saying, “At one point [of] the concert, I started to feel like I couldn’t see anymore. I mean, you’re in the middle of a 360 stage, and I was only seeing everything as black, and I was talking through the intercom.”

He went on to explain that dizziness and cold sweats followed. When a doctor checked his pulse, Balvin said it was 190 beats per minute — well above the typical adult resting heart rate of 60 to 100 beats per minute, according to the American Heart Association.

The singer recalled how worried his mother was, pleading with him to end the show right away. Balvin admitted that in an attempt to recover, he ate six frozen treats, which triggered an insulin spike.

“I still can’t get over it, to be honest," he reflected.

Setlist.fm reported that the show lasted until 3:00 a.m., with Balvin performing close to 80 songs alongside stars like Daddy Yankee, Maluma, 50 Cent, DJ Snake and Reykon.

Now that his 2025 tour is behind him, Balvin finally has time to relax and recharge. With the hectic schedule off his plate, he says he can step back and appreciate what’s happening around him — including celebrating the success of other artists

In another part of the interview, J Balvin said he’s “happy” for Bad Bunny, who will be headlining the 2025 Super Bowl.

“Now I'm not focused on being No. 1,” Balvin joked. “I mean, now I'm happy with what's happening with Benito, for example, with Bad Bunny.”

Balvin explained that his outlook on success has shifted over the years. "I can celebrate it, and I can see it from a perspective that if I had seen it from the perspective of J Balvin from, I don't know, six or five years ago?" he continued.

"I would be banging my head against the walls. Now [I'm thinking] from a perspective of celebrating the success of my colleagues.”
