On the Wednesday, April 1, episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, the daytime talk show host, 44, shared that her daughter Mila, 12, loves to pull pranks. Bush Hager, who shares her three children with her husband Henry Hager, revealed that the tween played a prank on her family over the weekend involving a gas station and an AI-generated dog.
"We were going to the mall. We stopped at the gas station. She's like, I have this idea. Let's tell Dad and Poppy and our whole family group chat that we adopted this dog," she recalled, showing a picture of an AI puppy her daughter created using ChatGPT. "So she sent this picture to the group chat. She's like, 'Hey everybody, we got this dog from the gas station."
"Everybody believed it, but everybody had different reactions," she continued. "Henry was like, 'Ok, but that dog looks like it belongs to someone.' He didn't want to say no, but he was like that dog looks like it belongs to a loving family. Mila's like, 'Nope, the gas station asked us to adopt him.'"
Bush Hager noted that her husband, 47, responded by pointing out the fact that they already had two cats and that they'd have to watch out for them and the dog. Thinking quickly on her feet, Bush Hager said that her daughter told her father that there was a cat at the gas station, too.
While her husband and daughter were having a conversation about the puppy, Bush Hager's daughter Poppy, 10, was already falling in love with the fake furry friend.
"Meanwhile, Poppy's like, 'Oh, let's name him, you know, Scruffy,' " Bush Hager said.

After hearing how quickly her daughter responded, guest co-host Willie Geist acknowledged how committed the 12-year-old was to the bit. "You know, it's hard to raise a prankster," Bush Hager joked. "But as one, I get it."
Geist, 50, then asked Bush Hager how Mila revealed to her family that she was pranking them.
"We went into the mall and just forgot about it. It just went away," Bush Hager replied, revealing that they eventually left the mall and noticed they had received a lot of texts about the AI dog. "So, there was a million texts like 'What's the name of the dog? What's the name of the dog? What's the name of the dog?' And she just wrote back, 'The name is a prank.'"

In addition to Poppy and Mila, Bush Hager and Hager are the proud parents of son, Hal, whom they welcomed in 2019. Over the years, the former first daughter has been candid about her motherhood journey, admitting that "logistics can be difficult" as her family has grown. Today, she devotes herself to "making sure that each child has the love that I know I feel for them."
While she often raves about her children on Today, Bush Hager also keeps it real, sharing, "Sometimes I hide from the kids in the pantry and just have a cheese stick."
Still, she looks for the silver lining in each moment with them. "I try to find the love and the pleasure that I know I have for my kids even in the tedious parts of parenting," Bush Hager added.
